The “Think Deeper” feature, accessible through the Copilot web-based chat at copilot.microsoft.com or the downloadable Copilot app, empowers users to delve deeper into various topics. By simply toggling the “Think Deeper” option, users can leverage the o1 model’s advanced reasoning capabilities for tasks like advice generation, planning, and in-depth analysis. A Microsoft account is required to access the feature.
The Power of the o1 Model
The o1 model, known for its exceptional performance in STEM fields, can accurately compute complex problems. Its capabilities were demonstrated when it accurately solved Mathematics Olympiad problems at an 86% rate.
A Demonstration of Enhanced Reasoning
A practical example illustrates the difference “Think Deeper” makes. When presented with an SAT-level math problem, Copilot provided a straightforward solution without the toggle enabled. However, with “Think Deeper” activated, Copilot not only provided the answer but also offered a psychological analysis of the problem’s subject, a historical perspective on the details, and additional relevant facts. The result was significantly more comprehensive and insightful.
Accessibility and Cost Considerations
Previously, the o1 model was exclusively available to OpenAI’s paid subscribers, costing $200 per month for ChatGPT Pro and $20 per month with limited access for ChatGPT Plus. Microsoft’s decision to offer free access to the o1 model through Copilot marks a significant shift in accessibility.
