Kingston expands high-speed storage lineup with new PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD

Kingston has introduced the FURY Renegade G5, its latest PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD designed to cater to demanding users who prioritize speed and stability in high-performance environments. With read speeds of up to 14,800MB/s and write speeds up to 14,000MB/s, this drive positions itself among the top tier of Gen5 storage options currently available for gaming rigs, workstations, and content creation setups.

Powered by the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller built on a 6nm process and equipped with a low-power DDR4 DRAM cache, the FURY Renegade G5 aims to balance performance with thermal efficiency. Kingston has implemented a multi-layered approach to heat management, including a 12-layer PCB and optimized power delivery through an independent Buck IC. These features are designed to sustain high transfer rates under load while maintaining system stability and longevity.

The SSD leverages 3D TLC NAND and comes in three capacities—1TB, 2TB, and 4TB—addressing the needs of users with expansive media libraries or large-scale data workflows. Sequential performance varies slightly across models, with even the entry-level 1TB version offering up to 14,200MB/s read speeds. Random 4K IOPS ratings exceed 2 million across all capacities, ensuring fast access times for applications that rely on frequent small file transactions.

The M.2 2280 form factor ensures broad compatibility with modern desktops and laptops. While designed for PCIe 5.0, it retains backward compatibility with Gen4 and Gen3 systems, allowing for flexible upgrades without immediate platform overhauls. Its support for DirectStorage also aligns with newer gaming standards, making it well-suited for future-ready builds.

Durability metrics are solid, with total bytes written (TBW) rated at up to 4 petabytes on the 4TB model. Mean time between failures (MTBF) is estimated at two million hours, and Kingston backs the drive with a five-year limited warranty and free technical support.

With the FURY Renegade G5, Kingston extends its portfolio of high-performance storage solutions while keeping practical considerations like power efficiency, thermal management, and backward compatibility in focus. It’s a straightforward option for users who need a reliable, fast SSD without the frills or inflated marketing claims that often accompany new hardware releases.

For those looking to maximize system throughput—whether for gaming, 3D rendering, or video editing—the Kingston FURY Renegade G5 offers a capable blend of speed and endurance that aligns with the growing demands of modern computing.
