iOS 18.3 beta: here are all the new features and bug fixes

While iOS 18.2 made a splash with its AI-powered features, the first beta of iOS 18.3 hints at a more refined update focused on minor changes and bug fixes. Here’s a rundown of what’s been discovered so far:

Robot Vacuum Support in Home App:

Though initially announced for iOS 18, robot vacuum support was delayed. Code within the iOS 18.3 beta suggests that this long-awaited feature is finally making its appearance. This means users will soon be able to control their robot vacuums directly from the Home app, integrate them into automations and scenes, and even issue voice commands via Siri.

AI Image Generation Feedback:

Apple is adding a feedback mechanism to its AI image generation features, Image Playground and Genmoji. Users can now provide feedback on generated images and emojis using a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down rating. This feedback will help improve the AI models over time, leading to more accurate and desirable results.

Dark Mode for Camera Control Settings Icon:

A minor but welcome visual tweak is the addition of a dark mode option for the Camera Control settings icon on iPhone 16 devices. This ensures consistency with the overall dark mode aesthetic.

Bug Fixes:

The beta addresses a couple of bugs related to Genmoji generation and third-party app integration with Writing Tools.

Genmoji Coming to macOS 15.3:

While not directly related to iOS, it’s worth noting that Genmoji support is also making its way to macOS 15.3. This will allow Mac users to create and share personalized emojis within their conversations.

Installing the iOS 18.3 Beta:

It’s important to remember that iOS 18.3 is currently in beta and is intended primarily for developers. Installing beta software on a personal device carries inherent risks, so it’s crucial to back up important data before proceeding.

To install the iOS 18.3 beta, users with compatible iPhones can sign into developer.apple.com and navigate to the Software Update section in Settings. From there, they can choose the iOS 18 Developer Beta option and follow the on-screen instructions.
