Huawei has expanded its smartphone lineup with the introduction of the Mate 70 series, featuring four distinct models: the Mate 70, Mate 70 Pro, Mate 70 Pro+, and Mate 70 Ultimate Design. This new flagship series showcases Huawei’s latest advancements in both hardware and software.

Design and Display

Three of the four models (Mate 70, Pro, and Pro+) share a similar design language, with sleek metal and glass construction. The Mate 70 features flat sides, while the Pro and Pro+ models have slightly rounded frames. All three models sport a circular camera island on the back, housing a variety of camera sensors depending on the model. On the front, each device boasts a display with three camera cutouts.

The Mate 70 Ultimate Design takes a different approach, with a unique octagonal camera island and a distinctive backplate design.

In terms of displays, the Mate 70 features a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a resolution of 2688 x 1216. The Mate 70 Pro and Pro+ both offer larger 6.9-inch OLED LTPO displays with a resolution of 2832 x 1316 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The Ultimate Design shares the same display as the Pro and Pro+ models.

HarmonyOS NEXT and AI Features

All four Mate 70 models come equipped with HarmonyOS NEXT, Huawei’s proprietary operating system. The OS incorporates generative AI capabilities and a Large Language Model (LLM) to power the phone’s voice assistant. AI is also integrated into various features such as image generation and video editing.

Camera Systems

The Mate 70 series offers a range of camera setups across the different models.

  • Mate 70: 50MP main camera (f/1.4-f/4.0, OIS), 50MP ultrawide camera, 12MP periscope telephoto camera.
  • Mate 70 Pro: 50MP main camera (f/1.4-f/4.0, OIS), 40MP ultrawide camera, 48MP periscope telephoto camera, 3D camera for facial scanning.
  • Mate 70 Pro+: Similar to the Pro model, with a potentially enhanced periscope telephoto camera. 3D camera for facial scanning.
  • Mate 70 Ultimate Design: Identical camera setup to the Pro+ model. 3D camera for facial scanning.

Battery and Charging

Each model in the Mate 70 series comes with a substantial battery and fast charging capabilities:

  • Mate 70: 5300mAh battery, 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
  • Mate 70 Pro and Pro+: 5500mAh and 5700mAh batteries respectively, 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, 20W reverse wireless charging.
  • Mate 70 Ultimate Design: 5700mAh battery, 100W wired charging, 80W wireless charging, 20W reverse wireless charging.

Other Features

All four models are IP68 certified for water and dust resistance and feature in-display fingerprint scanners and Bluetooth 5.2.

Pricing and Availability

The Huawei Mate 70 series is initially launching in China, with the Mate 70 starting at CNY 5,999 ($827). Global pricing and availability are expected to be announced later.
