Google’s Feature Drop brings ‘Circle to Search’ and other updates to older Pixel phones

Google has recently announced its latest Feature Drop, aiming to significantly enhance the user experience across its Pixel devices range. This update brings an array of improvements and new features, designed to seamlessly integrate these devices into daily life. From enhanced call screening on Pixel phones to advanced health features on the first-gen Pixel Watch and innovative productivity tools for the Pixel Tablet, Google is set to improve how users interact with their devices.

Enhancements for Pixel Phones

Among the notable updates is an improvement to the Call Screen feature on Pixel phones. This enhancement is particularly useful for when callers remain silent; a new “hello” chip will prompt the caller to speak. Additionally, if the user cannot answer immediately, Google Assistant will ask the caller to wait. Pixel phone users also gain the ability to capture and share stunning 10-bit HDR videos on Instagram Reels and upload Ultra HDR photos straight to their Instagram feed, pushing the boundaries of mobile photography and video sharing.

Circle to Search ExpansionPixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro users already enjoy the innovative Circle to Search feature, and soon, this capability will extend to Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro devices. This feature allows users to search for information directly from their home screen by circling, scribbling, highlighting, or tapping on an image, text, or video, enhancing the efficiency of information retrieval without the need to switch applications.

First-Gen Pixel Watch Upgrades

The first-gen Pixel Watch isn’t left behind in this update, receiving several features previously exclusive to the Pixel Watch 2. Notable additions include Pace Training, Heart Zone Training, and a redesigned workout user interface with larger text and brighter colors. These updates are focused on enhancing the fitness tracking and health monitoring capabilities of the device. Additionally, Google Maps on Wear OS now offers public transit directions on the Pixel Watch, complete with real-time departure times and a compass-enabled map view, making navigation easier than ever for users on the go.

Pixel Tablet Productivity Tools

The Pixel Tablet receives its share of updates, with a focus on improving productivity. New features like app screen sharing during video calls, Fast Pair for easier device connections, and Google Docs markups for handwritten annotations enhance the utility of the Pixel Tablet for both professional and personal use. The introduction of the Gboard voice toolbar, which minimizes into a toolbar during voice input, further optimizes the user interface for efficiency and ease of use.

The rollout of these Feature Drop updates will commence over the next few weeks, reaching devices globally. Google’s commitment to refining and enhancing the user experience across its extensive range of Pixel devices is evident in this latest update, promising users an even more integrated and seamless interaction with their technology.
