Google Wallet now turns almost anything into a digital pass

Google Wallet just got a major upgrade! It now uses AI to transform a wide variety of physical passes into digital ones.

Forget about rummaging through your emails for that PDF concert ticket or navigating a clunky healthcare app to find your insurance card. Google Wallet’s new “Everything Else” feature lets you create digital versions of all sorts of IDs,tickets, and passes, right from the app.

This AI-powered feature replaces the old “Photo” option in the “Add to Wallet” menu. Simply choose “Everything Else,” allow Google’s AI to process your sensitive information, snap a photo of your pass, and voilà! You’ve got a digital version ready to use.

The feature works for a variety of categories, including business cards, IDs, library cards, loyalty cards, passports, and vehicle registration. It’s currently available only in the US, but hopefully, it’ll expand to other regions soon.

While the process is generally smooth, it’s wise to double-check the information extracted by the AI. In some cases, it might misinterpret the details, like mistaking a Sam’s Club card for a vehicle registration. Luckily, you can edit any inaccuracies before approving the final digital pass.

Google has officially started rolling out this handy feature. Although it might not be available on all devices just yet, it should be coming to more phones soon.

So, next time you’re about to leave the house, check your Google Wallet first. You might be pleasantly surprised to find that you can leave those bulky cards behind!
