Apple’s “Reasons to Upgrade” tool: your guide to a better iPhone

Apple wants to take the guesswork out of iPhone upgrades. Their new “Reasons to Upgrade” website tool is your key to seeing exactly what you’d gain by switching to the latest iPhone. Simply choose your current model, and Apple shows you a side-by-side breakdown of features you’re missing out on.

This page isn’t shy about pushing you to upgrade, and they make it tempting! Alongside the feature comparison, you’ll see the trade-in value of your old device. This makes imagining the price difference on a shiny new iPhone much easier.

Interestingly, you won’t find comparisons of the iPhone 13 or 14 series here – just the iPhone 11 and 12 lineups. This seems like a strategic move to really emphasize the jump in features for those with older models.

Apple focuses on user-friendly explanations rather than raw specs. So, instead of just listing megapixels, the comparison between an iPhone 11 and iPhone 15 Pro might say the newer model captures “images with 4x the resolution, bursting with realistic detail and color.” Other highlighted upgrades include larger storage, better zoom, 4K video recording, super fast 5G, the innovative Dynamic Island, and longer battery life.

For now, the “Reasons to Upgrade” tool is a US-exclusive feature on Apple’s website (you can access it directly here). If you’re considering the iPhone 15 and want a clear picture of its advantages, this tool is definitely worth checking out.
