Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, a cutting-edge electric sports car that marks a new chapter in the brand’s performance evolution. Built on the AMG.EA high-performance electric architecture, the four-door coupe introduces a groundbreaking drivetrain featuring three axial flux motors capable of producing over 1,000 kW (1,360+ hp), paired with a newly developed high-voltage battery. The result is a vehicle capable of exceeding 360 km/h in top speed while offering near-instantaneous recharge capabilities—about 400 km of range (WLTP) in just five minutes.
The drivetrain technology draws on expertise from Mercedes-Benz’s global R&D network, including partnerships with electric motor specialist YASA and Formula 1 engineers from Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. Axial flux motors, a highlight of the new system, deliver three times the power density of conventional electric motors while being significantly more compact and lightweight. Two motors are positioned at the rear, one at the front, all integrated into high-efficiency electric drive units (HP.EDUs).
Supporting the motors is a bespoke High Performance Electric Battery (HP.EB), designed with cylindrical cells, laser-welded aluminum housings, and advanced cooling using non-conductive oil to maintain optimal temperatures. The battery architecture also features an 800+ volt system, enabling ultra-fast charging and extended performance longevity.
Aesthetically, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX retains hallmark AMG design cues with a sleek fastback silhouette, aggressive front grille, and aerodynamic optimizations. A drag coefficient of 0.198 and advanced airflow systems, including a passive underbody cooling plate and AIRPANEL active louvers, contribute to high-speed stability and efficiency.
Inside, the cabin is a minimalist blend of performance and sustainability. High-tech materials such as LABFIBER Biotech Leather and Silk Alternatives, made from recycled GT3 racing tires and biotechnology, underscore Mercedes-AMG’s commitment to sustainable luxury. Custom 3D-printed seat pads and a race-inspired steering wheel reinforce the vehicle’s motorsport lineage.
Technology features include an updated MBUX system with a Fluid Light Panel at the rear, capable of displaying dynamic animations and real-time vehicle status. Exterior innovations like luminescent paint and speaker-integrated headlights further enhance the futuristic appeal.
The concept’s active Aero Wheels—21-inch forged rims with movable blades—adjust for either aerodynamic efficiency or brake cooling, powered by individual self-generating actuators. This system exemplifies the integration of intelligent performance and energy management.
With series production expected in 2026, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX sets a benchmark for electric sports car performance, merging F1-derived technology with design and innovation suited for the road.
