SSS-Class Revival Hunter anime finally confirmed for January 2027

SSS-Class Revival Hunter is officially making the jump from Korean web novel and webcomic to anime, with the adaptation scheduled to premiere in January 2027. Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the series worldwide, including the UAE and Saudi Arabia, giving one of the more recognisable tower-climbing fantasy stories a significantly larger international platform.

The adaptation follows Gongja Kim, an F-rank Hunter stuck near the bottom of a world where status, wealth and survival are closely tied to strength. His fixation on the powerful Flame Emperor eventually gives way to an opportunity to change his fortunes when he acquires an S-rank ability. There is, naturally, a fairly brutal catch: Gongja has to die for the skill to activate.

That mechanic is central to what separates SSS-Class Revival Hunter from the increasingly crowded field of Hunter, dungeon and tower-based fantasy series. Rather than simply handing its protagonist overwhelming strength, the premise turns death itself into part of his progression. The story pairs that ability with Gongja’s relationship with the Sword Emperor as he begins attempting the climb that previously seemed beyond his reach.

The first teaser trailer and key visual focus on the beginning of that journey, showing Gongja before his transformation from low-ranking Hunter into a genuine contender. The Sword Emperor also appears, while a mysterious glowing card hints at the ability that will reshape Gongja’s future.

Takeo Otsuka has been cast as Gongja Kim in the Japanese version, with Satoshi Hino voicing the Sword Emperor. Hiroaki Sakurai is directing the anime, while Sayuri Oba is handling the script. Takahiro Yoshimatsu is responsible for character design, and animation production is being handled by STUDIO fu.

The adaptation arrives during a particularly active period for anime based on Korean web novels and webtoons. The international success of titles built around Hunters, levelling systems and dungeon-style worlds has made Korean source material increasingly attractive to anime producers and global streaming platforms. SSS-Class Revival Hunter certainly shares some of that genre DNA, but its death-triggered ability gives the adaptation an obvious hook beyond the familiar promise of watching an underpowered protagonist become increasingly formidable.

There are still some important details missing. An exact January premiere date has not been announced, nor has the episode count or wider supporting cast. The first teaser is also more of an introduction than a demonstration of how STUDIO fu intends to handle the series’ larger battles and increasingly ambitious environments.

For existing readers, however, the biggest question has finally been answered: SSS-Class Revival Hunter is getting an anime. The next test will be whether the adaptation can make Gongja Kim’s repeated encounters with death feel as consequential on screen as they do on the page.
