Mitsuoka, a unique Japanese automaker known for its distinctive retro-inspired creations, has unveiled the M55, a captivating reimagining of the Honda Civic Hatchback. With a design that blends classic American muscle car aesthetics with hints of 1970s Japanese sports cars, the M55 is a head-turning tribute to automotive history.

Originally revealed as a concept in early 2024, the M55 garnered significant interest, prompting Mitsuoka to fast-track its production. The company plans to begin deliveries in 2025, though customers may face a wait due to Mitsuoka’s unique handcrafted approach to vehicle manufacturing.

Handcrafted Exclusivity

Unlike modern mass-production methods, Mitsuoka relies on skilled artisans who meticulously hand-assemble each vehicle. This painstaking process, carried out in a small garage in Toyama City, Tokyo, takes an average of two months per car. This dedication to craftsmanship ensures that each M55 is a unique and meticulously crafted automobile.

A Fusion of Design Influences

The M55’s design draws inspiration from various sources. The front end evokes the bold presence of a Dodge Challenger, while the side profile and rear end hint at classic Japanese sports cars like the Galant GTO and early Nissan Skylines. White-lettered tires and rear windscreen louvers further enhance the retro aesthetic.

Under the Skin

Beneath its distinctive exterior, the M55 is based on the modern Honda Civic Hatchback, providing a reliable and technologically advanced foundation. This combination of classic styling and contemporary engineering creates a truly unique driving experience.

The M55 is a testament to Mitsuoka’s commitment to automotive artistry and its ability to transform modern vehicles into captivating retro-modern masterpieces. With its distinctive design and handcrafted exclusivity, the M55 is sure to appeal to automotive enthusiasts seeking a unique and head-turning vehicle.
