Renault’s electric R17 is so retro it’s practically prehistoric… and you can’t have it

Hold onto your bell bottoms, folks! Renault has unleashed a time-traveling, head-turning masterpiece that’s straight outta a 1970s sci-fi flick. It’s called the R17, and it’s a glorious reimagining of the forgotten Renault 17 coupe, now electrified and ready to boogie.

This ain’t your grandpappy’s Renault. The R17 has shed its puny petrol engine and embraced the future with a 270 bhp electric powertrain that’ll leave you shakin’ your groove thing. It’s lighter than a Nissan Leaf, wider than the original, and boasts LED lights that practically scream “disco inferno.”

Inside, it’s a beige-tastic time capsule, complete with deep woolen seats and a dash that begs for a Serge Gainsbourg 8-track. Renault even threw in a giant central screen and digital dials for a touch of modern flair, while still paying homage to the original’s funky aesthetic.

Imagine cruising down the Champs-Élysées in this bad boy, the wind in your hair, the sun on your face, and the sweet sounds of ABBA blasting from the speakers. It’s a retro dream come true, a perfect blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge tech.

But here’s where the heartbreak sets in: you can’t have it. Renault has cruelly declared this a one-off show car, a tantalizing glimpse into a parallel universe where 70s cool and electric power coexist.

So, we’re left to admire it from afar, yearning for a reality where we can ditch our boring SUVs and embrace the groovy, electrifying spirit of the R17. Maybe someday, Renault will come to its senses and unleash this beauty on the world. Until then, we’ll just have to keep dreaming of a future where the past is the present, and driving is once again a funky, exhilarating experience.
