Google has rolled out new privacy protections for students and educators using its Gemini AI chatbot. Starting today, data shared by users with school accounts will not be used to train or improve Gemini or any other AI models.
This added layer of security is available to Google Workspace for Education users worldwide and ensures that data is only used to respond to user prompts directly. While initially available to educators and students 18 and older, Google plans to extend this protection to teen students in the future.
School administrators will soon have the ability to enable or disable Gemini for their users through a new setting. When enabled, users can access Gemini by visiting gemini.google.com.
This privacy update specifically impacts Google Workspace Education Fundamentals, Standard, and Plus customers.
