Ford Motor company announced that it has dropped Microsoft and adopted Blackberry’s QNX software for its third generation Sync in-car connectivity system.

Microsoft’s system which was introduced in 2007 has suffered from many bugs which affected Ford’s quality standards and was met with heavy customer complaints.

Ford said, the QNX system has a simpler layout, advanced touchscreen controls and better implementation across the system.

Sync 3 will roll out in the US on more than half of the cars by the end of 2016 and then expand globally.

It’s doing everything better, says Sherif Marakby, global director of electrical and electronic systems engineering for Ford.

Sync 3 has a built-in wifi receiver allowing “over the air updates” when parked at home.
