The Epic Giant Robot Battle Between the MKIII and the Kuratas Finally Has a Date

Giant Robot Kuratas MegaBots

If you’re a lover of robots, big or small, then you’ve probably heard of MegaBots, the American company that challenged Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industries to an ultimate showdown between the two giant robots each company had built. The giant robot challenge was made two years ago and since then, both companies have been hard at work to improve their respective robots. But now, after most of the fanfare has died, we have a tentative date: August of this year.

According to MegaBots the delay over the duel date was because of venue problems, with the original location falling through. The new venue is being kept under wraps, says MegaBots, “to prevent any further potential delays,” but will be revealed in the coming months. MegaBots will also be showing off its Mk.III bot in the San Francisco Bay Area in May.

“This is what the world has dreamt about for 20 years. MegaBots is taking all of the cutting-edge robotics research that’s been happening behind closed doors, and busting it through the wall in the most epic entertainment phenomenon of our generation.”

– MegaBots Co-Founder and co-pilot Matt Oehrlein.

But Japan’s Suidobashi Heavy Industries haven’t blinked an eye in the face of the upcoming Mk.III. Suidobashi’s “Kuratas” weighs four and a half tonnes and sports not one, but two Gatling guns which come along with a sophisticated targeting system and a heads-up display.
