The Samsung ArtPC Pulse Premium is tiny!
Samsung has made waves in the recent weeks due to its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy Note 7, having some of its models catch fire, resulting in its production getting halted. But smartphones, while being a large part of Samsung’s portfolio, isn’t all the company produces. Computers are another facet of the company and the South Korean electronics giant has just announced a modular desktop PC, the Samsung ArtPC Pulse Premium.
Despite its tiny size (it’s 10.7 inches tall and 5 inches wide), the Samsung ArtPC Pulse Premium features a nice plethora of consumer friendly specifications, including an AMD Radeon RX 460 graphics card for some gaming. The most striking thing about the PC is its design; it’s reminiscent of Apple’s Mac Pro. Well, a glowing LED version. Furthermore, the Samsung ArtPC Pulse Premium also comes with a Harmon Kardon omnidirectional speaker that’s built into the design, giving the last bit of polish to a very aesthetically pleasing product.
There are currently two versions on sale. The cheaper version runs for $1,199 and includes:
- Intel 2.7 Ghz i5 Processor (Skylake)
- 8 GB of DDR4 RAM
- 256 GB NVMe SSD
- AMD Radeon RX 460 (2 GB)
- 1 USB-C port, four USB-A (presumably 3.0)
- Fancy colorful lighting
- Harmon Kardon speaker module included
While the $1,599 version is mostly the same but bumps up some of the specs in a few areas:
- 3.4 Ghz Core i7
- 16 GB RAM
- Includes 1 TB SATA HDD module (in addition to 256 GB SSD)
Now I know what you may be thinking; aren’t all desktop PC’s modular? Upgrading and exchanging parts within a PC is what the PC Master Race view as their sacred duty, so what exactly is modular about the Samsung ArtPC Pulse? The Amazon listing only shows the speaker and a hard drive as two modular upgrades for the system, however, there is still no word from Samsung if any other modules will be available.
