It’s that time of year again where the world unites for a good cause: the global phenomenon that is Earth Hour.
This year though, there is a new campaign being launched: EWS-WWF is initiating a local Call to Action ‘Get Enlightened. Make the Switch’ which will be disseminated through Earth Hour 2014. This campaign aims to encourage people to take charge of their own carbon footprint and make the switch to energy efficient lighting.
Switching to energy efficient light bulbs is a very simple yet impactful way to reduce UAE’s carbon footprint per capita, bringing benefit to the UAE and its residents. Making the switch can significantly reduce carbon emission per year, and can allow net savings on electricity bills across UAE households of 452million AED per year. Last year, according to Dewa, the emirate managed to save 200,000 kilowatts hours of energy saving 120 tonnes of carbon emissions.
So mark your calendars for Saturday 29th March 2014 at 8:30pm, where the UAE will join millions of people across the globe in switching off non-essential lights in business premises and in homes for one hour.
Earth Hour has become a global phenomenon since in inception in 2007, seeing participation from over 7000 cities and more than 150 countries last year, becoming the world’s largest voluntary action for the environment.
