The Apple Store will set up art workshops this week

Jan 17

There’s only two months till the leading international art fair in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia hits us. That’s right, Art Dubai is just around the corner so it’s time to dust off those brushes and wipe down those palettes. Of course if you have no artistic flair at all like me, you can head on down to Mall of the Emirates to attend some great art workshops courtesy of Apple.

Starting from the 19th of January, the Apple Store in Mall of the Emirates will offer two different workshops, hosted on different days. The first, which will be held on the opening day, will be the “Sketch, Draw and Paint with iPad”. People who bring in their iPads will be able to learn basic techniques for sketching, drawing and painting (don’t worry you won’t be actually painting your iPad). People can use their Pencil and if they don’t have one they’ll be provided with one to test out their artistic skills. You’ll be able to sketch along with a group as you all begin to build your galley of artwork. After you’ve mastered your new skills, you’ll be given the opportunity to work on your own project, whether it be a striking image of the city skyline or an infamous bowl of fruit. What’s more, since it’s an all-levels workshop, you’ll have a chance to learn from some pros, or pass on your knowledge to those less experienced.

The other workshop is all about shooting more artistic photos with your iPhone and will be held on the 21st and 28th of Jan. Again, like the previous workshop, you’ll need to bring along your iPhone for the hands-on workshop. You’ll be taught how to shoot photos more creatively and have the chance to try out different accessories & techniques, such as utilising longer exposure timings to capture those iconic light trails, using a time lapse to show progression or perhaps start your own Netflix show or getting down and dirty with nature by taking close ups with a macro lens. But of course as every good Instagrammer knows, taking the picture is only half the battle; you’ll have to figure out what filter you want to slap over it amongst other edits, all of which you can do with some helpful tutoring.

The workshops are part of the “Start Something New” campaign which seeks to have Apple Stores in the UAE adorned with pictures by 11 international artists who have used a variety of Apple products to capture the moment. You can find out more about them here.
