Kia is changing how it does business in the UAE, appointing Al Tayer Motors as its exclusive distributor and ending a long-running relationship with Juma Al Majid Group. The switch puts one of the country’s largest automotive retail groups in charge of Kia sales and after-sales operations as the Korean manufacturer expands its electric and conventional vehicle line-up.
Under the new structure, Al Tayer Motors will oversee Kia operations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Premier Motors, which is part of Al Tayer Group, will handle Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, giving the wider group responsibility for the brand across the country.
For customers, the immediate question is what happens to cars, warranties and service agreements purchased under Kia’s previous distributor. Kia says existing warranties, maintenance contracts and other after-sales commitments will remain valid, with services expected to continue without interruption during the transition.
That continuity will be important. Distributor changes can involve considerably more than replacing showroom signs, particularly for an established automotive brand with thousands of vehicles already on UAE roads. Parts availability, workshop capacity, warranty processing and access to service locations will ultimately determine how smoothly the change feels to existing owners.
The appointment also closes a significant chapter for Kia in the UAE. Juma Al Majid Group represented the Korean manufacturer for many years and played a substantial role in developing its local retail and after-sales presence. Kia has acknowledged the group’s contribution as it moves to the new arrangement.
The timing is notable because Kia itself is becoming a broader proposition. Once primarily associated with conventional passenger cars and affordable SUVs, its current portfolio stretches across SUVs, electric vehicles, commercial models and pickups. That creates a more complicated job for its new distributor, particularly as electrification becomes a larger part of the brand’s regional strategy.
Kia recently introduced the electric PV5, part of its push into purpose-built electric vehicles, and says additional models are planned for the UAE. The company is positioning electrified vehicles and sustainable mobility as important parts of its future growth, although customer demand, charging infrastructure and pricing will continue to influence how quickly that transition develops locally.
Al Tayer Motors already operates across multiple automotive segments in the UAE, while Premier Motors provides an established presence in Abu Dhabi. Kia is betting that this existing retail and service experience can support its next stage of expansion rather than requiring the brand to build a national operation from scratch.
For UAE buyers, however, the significance of the Kia distributor change will be measured less by corporate strategy than by what happens at the showroom and workshop. Maintaining service standards for existing customers while introducing an increasingly diverse range of EVs, SUVs, commercial vehicles and pickups will be the first meaningful test of the new partnership.
