Samsung is extending its Galaxy S26 family with the Galaxy S26 FE, a more affordable entry that borrows heavily from the company’s flagship playbook while putting AI, camera software and long-term support at the centre of the pitch. The phone launches in select markets on September 4 in Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio.
Perhaps the most notable detail is software rather than hardware. The Galaxy S26 FE is the first member of the S26 lineup to ship with One UI 9, running on Android 17. Samsung is also promising seven generations of operating system upgrades and seven years of security updates, giving the FE a potentially lengthy useful lifespan for buyers who do not replace their phones every couple of years.
Underneath, Samsung has opted for its 3nm Exynos 2500 processor alongside 8GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of storage. The phone has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness rated at 1,900 nits. Its 4,900mAh battery supports 45W wired charging, with Samsung claiming a roughly 69% charge in 30 minutes using a compatible adapter sold separately. There is also 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare.
The camera hardware consists of a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilisation, a 12-megapixel ultrawide and an 8-megapixel telephoto offering 3x optical zoom. A 12-megapixel camera handles selfies.
Samsung is leaning just as heavily on software to distinguish those cameras. My FanCam, previously introduced on its foldables, can track a selected person and automatically reframe video to keep them centred. Super Steady gains Horizontal Lock, while Photo Assist supports natural-language editing requests, including adding or reconstructing elements in photographs. AI-generated Photo Assist images receive a visible watermark.
Galaxy AI continues to spread deeper into the interface. Now Brief offers customisable information cards, while Now Nudge can surface contextual suggestions from supported Samsung and third-party messaging apps. Google’s Circle to Search can also identify multiple objects within the same image. As with many contemporary AI features, availability and functionality can vary by language, region and account requirements.
Samsung is bundling six months of Google AI Pro for eligible users, including access to Gemini Omni and 5TB of cloud storage. The subscription is priced at $19.99 per month after the trial unless cancelled, according to Samsung’s announcement.
At 7.4mm thick and 193g, the Galaxy S26 FE retains a relatively slim profile despite the larger battery, while IP68 water and dust resistance rounds out the hardware package. Pricing remains the conspicuous missing piece. That figure will ultimately determine how convincing the S26 FE is: its specifications cover most modern flagship essentials, but the FE proposition only really works when the gap between it and Samsung’s full-fat Galaxy S models is large enough to matter.
