Apple releases seventh watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 betas

Apple has released the seventh developer betas of watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27, continuing its late-stage testing cycle ahead of the next round of operating system updates. The new builds are available to registered developers through Software Update on compatible devices.

Of the three, watchOS 27 brings the most visible changes. Apple is expanding Siri AI to the Apple Watch, although the feature depends on a paired Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhone for processing. Conversations can also sync across Apple devices through the dedicated Siri app, giving users a more continuous experience between Watch, iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Apple is also reshaping how users move around watchOS. The Dynamic App Grid can surface frequently used apps based on context, while a new tap gesture lets users interact with Smart Stack widgets using one hand. Find My has been redesigned around a more unified map view, and Wallet gains broader support for passes, balances and contextual information.

Fitness and health tracking are receiving smaller but potentially useful refinements. Apple says indoor walking and running distance measurements are more accurate, route maps have been improved and Workout Buddy can now operate without an iPhone nearby. Sleep tracking is also said to be more precise, although Apple has not detailed the underlying changes.

The compatibility story is more significant. According to the current beta requirements, watchOS 27 drops several older models, including Apple Watch Series 6, Series 7, Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2 and the original Apple Watch Ultra. That is a substantial cutoff and may be one of the update’s biggest practical considerations for existing users.

tvOS 27 is comparatively modest. Apple is refining Control Center, improving animation responsiveness and speeding up AirPlay connections. The Podcasts app has also been redesigned, larger text options are available and AppleCare information can now be viewed directly in Settings. These are useful changes, but tvOS remains the least dramatic of Apple’s major platform updates this year.

visionOS 27 is more ambitious. Apple Intelligence is being integrated more deeply into Vision Pro, with Siri able to use Visual Intelligence to interpret a user’s surroundings. Apple is also introducing a movable 3D Siri interface, richer spatial treatment for panoramic photos, new immersive web APIs and redesigned app windows that make more use of the headset’s field of view.

Apple is additionally claiming major wireless performance improvements in visionOS 27, along with expanded tools for developers working with 3D content and spatial experiences.

With beta 7 now available across all three platforms, Apple appears to be focusing increasingly on polish rather than headline additions. The more important test will come at release, when features such as Siri AI, contextual watchOS tools and deeper Vision Pro integration have to prove they are reliable enough for everyday use.
