Concorde is set for a comeback

It appears that a group of ex-pilots, engineers, operations staff, execs and Concorde enthusiasts have raised enough funds to buy a Concorde with the purpose of getting it airborne again. Club Concorde said it is securing around $180 million for the return of the supersonic jet.

Concorde took its last flight on October 24th, 2003 with no plans to ever fly again…..until now.

Club Concorde president Paul James said they were hoping to secure two Concordes located in France at the moment.

We have been overwhelmed by the amount of enthusiasm and people wanting to invest, Mr James said. The support shows how much people still admire Concorde and want to see it flying again. The plane we would like to get in the air is at Le Bourget in Paris. We had wanted to lease and restore a British Airways Concorde for display in London – next to the London Eye – but this has not been possible, so again we are looking to France and a Concorde near Orly airport.

After finalizing the deal and restoration, the planes will be used for special events and charter flights, Mr James said. Club Concorde is aiming to take the jet to the skies by 2019, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the inaugural Concorde flight.
