BenQ Board RP05 brings AI features to Middle East classrooms

BenQ has introduced the RP05 interactive whiteboard in the Middle East, an updated model aimed at classrooms, lecture halls, and other educational settings. Built on Android 15 with Google EDLA certification, the device incorporates a 10 TOPS neural processing unit for on-device AI tasks, marking a step forward from the previous RP04 series in processing speed and multitasking capabilities.

The RP05 emphasizes edge AI processing, which allows many functions to run locally rather than relying on constant cloud connections. This approach can reduce latency and address some privacy concerns in shared learning environments, though the effectiveness will depend on real-world implementation across varied school infrastructures. Features include AI tools for whiteboarding and content adjustments, intelligent search within lessons and notes, automated transcription with summaries, visual generation aids, and support for multiple languages to facilitate collaboration. It also offers a 50-point touch system designed for responsive multi-user interaction, potentially useful in group activities but requiring careful classroom management to avoid distractions.

By integrating these elements directly into the display, the RP05 reduces the need for separate computers or modules, streamlining setup for wireless sharing, cloud access, and basic computing. Built-in speakers and a microphone array support hybrid learning setups, enabling smoother transitions between in-person and remote participation—a practical consideration given the region’s ongoing digital education investments. A broadcast function further allows administrators to distribute announcements across connected units, which could prove efficient for larger campuses.

The system includes familiar BenQ software like EZWrite for lesson creation, InstaShare for screen mirroring from various devices, and management tools for remote oversight. Google Workspace and Play Store access align it with common educational applications already in use. On the health side, it incorporates low blue light options, Eyesafe certification, and a germ-resistant surface, elements that reflect broader attention to student well-being in prolonged screen-based learning.

That said, interactive whiteboards have evolved steadily over the past decade, and while AI enhancements promise to simplify workflows and boost engagement, questions remain about long-term value. Many institutions already face challenges with teacher training, maintenance costs, and equitable access, particularly in diverse GCC contexts where budgets and connectivity levels vary. Over-reliance on integrated AI could also introduce new dependencies if updates or support lag.

Manish Bakshi of BenQ Middle East noted that schools in the region are directing resources toward smarter, more collaborative tools, positioning the RP05 as part of that shift. The 86-inch version is available now, with 65-inch and 75-inch models planned for the near future.

For educators evaluating upgrades, the RP05 represents a consolidated platform that builds on established interactive display strengths while adding localized AI processing. Its success will ultimately hinge on how well it integrates into daily teaching practices without adding unnecessary complexity.
