Baseus launches clip-on earbuds with LDAC support and IP67 rating

Baseus has entered the growing open-ear audio segment with the Bowie MC2, a pair of clip-on earbuds designed for extended wear rather than the traditional in-ear seal. Launched globally on June 1, 2026, the product targets users seeking comfort during long sessions while maintaining decent sound quality and practical features at a mid-range price.

The Bowie MC2 employs a flexible titanium alloy bridge paired with what Baseus terms CloudComfort 2.0, which includes detachable silicone air cushions in three sizes to ease the pressure that clip-on designs often exert after prolonged use. Each earbud weighs just 5.1 grams and carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, suitable for workouts or outdoor activities in variable conditions. This focus on ergonomics addresses a common complaint with clip-on audio devices, where clamping mechanisms can cause fatigue over time.

Audio performance centers on 11mm dynamic drivers supported by the LDAC codec for higher-resolution streaming on compatible devices. Like most open-ear models, the Bowie MC2 faces inherent challenges with bass reproduction due to the lack of ear canal isolation. The company attempts to mitigate this through directional vents and bass enhancement processing, directing sound more precisely toward the ear. While this approach helps, real-world results will likely vary depending on environment and user expectations—open-ear formats have historically traded immersive depth for awareness of surroundings, a compromise that suits commuters or office workers but disappoints audiophiles seeking full isolation.

Battery life stands out as a practical strength. The earbuds deliver up to 11.5 hours on a single charge, extending to 55 hours with the case. A 10-minute quick charge yields around three hours of playback, which proves useful for busy days. Bluetooth 6.0 ensures stable connections, including multipoint pairing for simultaneous device use, while a four-microphone array handles calls with standard noise reduction for wind and ambient sounds. The companion app adds AI-driven tools such as voice note-taking and live translation supporting 135 languages, features that feel incremental rather than transformative in an already crowded market.

Available in Cosmic Black, Stellar White, and Deepsea Blue, the Bowie MC2 launches at $79.99 on Amazon in the US, with promotional pricing dipping to $59.99 on Baseus’s site and $49.99 using a limited-time code. European availability follows on June 10 at €89.99.

This release arrives amid intensifying competition in clip-on audio. Xiaomi recently introduced its own 11mm driver model with IP57 rating and 38 hours of total playback, while Honor’s Clip-On Pro emphasizes LHDC codec support and up to 47 hours of use. The segment has expanded quickly since open-ear concepts gained traction a few years ago, driven by demand for safer, more comfortable alternatives to sealed buds during exercise or daily multitasking. Yet many designs still struggle to match the audio fidelity of traditional in-ear options, particularly in noisy settings.

Overall, the Baseus Bowie MC2 represents a competent entry that prioritizes wearability and battery endurance over groundbreaking innovation. It fits well within the current trend toward hybrid listening experiences that balance convenience with situational awareness, though prospective buyers should weigh its open-ear limitations against their specific needs.
