BlackBerry acquires Good Technology for $425m

BlackBerry is closing an acquisition deal – possibly by November – of Good Technology worth $425 million in cash. The key motive is BlackBerry’s strategy in cross-platform mobile device management for enterprise customers. Although both companies have similar offerings, with Good acquired, BlackBerry will unify the technologies and solidify government-approved secure mobility platforms on any operating system.  This is a good thing, considering it is soon to release its first Android-powered phone.

iOS currently holds the 64% majority users for Good’s services followed by Android and Windows Phone. Interestingly, in a Q&A session, Good’s CEO Christy Wyatt mentioned that the technologies will also enable BlackBerry to support wearables, with an explicit mention of Apple Watch and Android Wear.
