Xiaomi 17 Pro (and yes, there’s a Pro Max too) launch with dual screens, Elite Gen 5 chip, and monster batteries

Xiaomi has unveiled the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max, two powerhouse flagships that push the envelope on design, performance, and battery endurance. Both devices pack Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, large batteries with hyper-fast charging, and an extra screen on the back—an unusual design choice that opens up fresh use cases.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro features a compact 6.3-inch LTPO front display (1–120Hz, 3,500 nits peak) protected by Dragon Crystal Glass, alongside a 2.7-inch secondary display on the rear. That rear panel (904 x 572, 120Hz) isn’t just for selfies with the main cameras—it can handle notifications, music controls, countdown timers, and even double as a retro-style gaming screen with Xiaomi’s new case. Powering it all is a 6,300mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, plus 22.5W reverse charge. Xiaomi claims the cell should retain 80% capacity even after 2,000 cycles thanks to its Surge G2 battery management.

On the camera front, the 17 Pro carries a triple 50MP setup: a 1/1.28-inch Light Fusion 950L main sensor with Leica Summilux f/1.67 lens and OIS, a new periscope telephoto with 5x zoom and macro shooting at 20cm, and a 102° ultra-wide. There’s also a 50MP front camera and a rear 3D ToF sensor for depth and AR applications.

The larger Xiaomi 17 Pro Max builds on the formula with a 6.9-inch LTPO display and a 2.9-inch rear screen. It upgrades to a massive 7,500mAh battery with the same 100W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds, effectively doubling as a portable power bank with 22.5W reverse output. Its vapor chamber is larger, and storage starts at 512GB. The camera setup mirrors the Pro’s, but with an improved telephoto module: a 1/2-inch ISOCELL GN8 sensor behind a 5x f/2.6 lens. Tele-macro shots are possible too, though at 30cm rather than 20cm.

Both models are IP68-certified, but Xiaomi says they exceed the standard: the 17 Pro is rated for immersion up to 4m in fresh water, while the Pro Max can go down to 6m.

Pricing in China starts at CNY 5,000 (around $700) for the 17 Pro and CNY 6,000 ($840) for the Pro Max. Global pricing will be higher, but the specs make it clear Xiaomi is positioning these as ultra-flagship rivals to Samsung’s Galaxy S and Apple’s iPhone Pro Max lines—with an extra screen trick neither offers.
