ChatGPT Go Brings Affordable AI to India at Just $5 per month

OpenAI has officially launched its most affordable paid subscription plan for ChatGPT in India, called ChatGPT Go. Priced at ₹399 per month (around $4.50 USD), this new tier brings extended access to GPT-5, longer memory, and upgraded AI tools — at a fraction of the cost of existing premium options.

What ChatGPT Go Includes

ChatGPT Go bridges the gap between the free plan and premium tiers by adding:

  • Extended access to GPT-5 — significantly higher usage compared to free users
  • Extended access to image generation — more generations for creative and work-related tasks
  • Extended access to file uploads — work with more spreadsheets, PDFs, and documents
  • Extended access to advanced data analysis — including Python-based data exploration
  • Longer memory — double the free tier’s memory, allowing for more personalized and contextual conversations
  • Access to projects, tasks, and custom GPTs — better organization, progress tracking, and customization

While OpenAI’s official website didn’t list specific limits, ChatGPT’s Head Nick Turley clarified on X (formerly Twitter) that ChatGPT Go will include:

  • 10x more messages
  • 10x more image generations
  • 10x more file uploads
  • 2x longer memory compared to the free tier

Notably, legacy model access is not included in ChatGPT Go.

Localized for India

Recognizing India’s unique digital ecosystem, OpenAI has integrated UPI (Unified Payments Interface) as a payment option — making it easier for Indian users to subscribe without relying on international cards.

“Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users! We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries,”
— Nick Turley, ChatGPT Head

Why India First?

India is one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets, with tens of millions of ChatGPT users. By launching an affordable mid-tier plan first in India, OpenAI is signaling a strategy to drive mass adoption in price-sensitive but high-growth regions.

If successful, the ChatGPT Go plan could expand to other developing countries, providing a stepping stone for users who want more than the free plan but find higher-tier subscriptions too expensive.

Bottom Line: With ChatGPT Go, OpenAI is making AI more accessible, affordable, and localized for Indian users — a move that could reshape how millions interact with everyday AI.
