At Google Cloud Next 2025 in Las Vegas, HONOR revealed new developments in its ongoing partnership with Google Cloud, showcasing a range of AI-powered features designed to improve user interaction and smartphone functionality. The announcement reinforces HONOR’s broader plans to evolve its mobile ecosystem by integrating advanced AI tools, with a focus on real-world utility and accessibility.
Speaking at the event, Eric Fang, Senior Director of Product Planning at HONOR, discussed how the collaboration with Google Cloud is helping to shape the company’s AI ambitions. Among the highlights was the introduction of Magic Portal 2.0, as well as new smartphone features supported by Google’s Gemini large language models and Imagen generative AI.
The initiative is part of HONOR’s broader ALPHA PLAN, announced earlier this year, which outlines its strategy to grow into a global AI device ecosystem. Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure plays a key role in this effort, providing the backbone for a new generation of features that span both on-device and cloud-based experiences.
One of the standout additions is AI Outpainting, part of the AiMAGE suite. Using Google’s Imagen model, the tool lets users expand photos beyond their original frame—up to twice the size—after capture. This post-shot framing approach gives users greater flexibility when composing images, even in complex environments like urban landscapes. The feature also supports photo rotation and reframing while maintaining image consistency.
Another feature, AI Eraser, allows users to quickly remove unwanted elements from photos with a few taps. Powered by Imagen, the tool intelligently fills removed areas with contextually accurate background content, offering more reliable results than many generic content-aware tools.
HONOR also emphasized its focus on making these AI capabilities available beyond premium-tier smartphones. The company highlighted the April launch of the HONOR 400 Lite in Europe, a midrange device that includes AI Outpainting, AI Eraser, and AI Upscale. This move aligns with HONOR’s commitment to democratize access to AI features globally.
In addition to photography-focused enhancements, the HONOR-Google Cloud collaboration is extending into productivity. Eric Fang previewed new tools designed to support workflows using Google Gemini’s language models. These will be available on HONOR’s upcoming devices set to launch in May 2025. Among them are upgraded office tools powered by Gemini, aiming to help users manage documents, emails, and schedules more efficiently with intelligent suggestions and automation.
The two companies are also exploring the potential of video AI with Veo, Google’s generative video model. HONOR plans to incorporate this technology into new devices to enable users to generate lifelike video clips from text prompts or visual cues—offering a new avenue for mobile creativity and digital expression.
Looking ahead, HONOR confirmed that the partnership with Google Cloud is a long-term strategy aimed at reshaping how users interact with smartphones through AI. The companies are continuing to co-develop features that blend cloud AI with mobile hardware capabilities, with the goal of delivering experiences that are more personalized, efficient, and accessible.
