AMD has announced the release of its 5th generation AMD Epyc Embedded processors, expanding its range of x86 embedded processing solutions. The AMD Epyc Embedded 9005 Series CPUs are designed for embedded markets, aiming to balance processing capabilities with features that improve product longevity, system resilience, and application development.

These processors, based on the Zen 5 architecture, are designed to offer performance and energy efficiency for networking, storage, and industrial edge systems. They are intended to enable faster and more efficient data processing.

The AMD Epyc Embedded 9005 Series processors support core counts ranging from 8 to 192 in a single socket, intended for compute-intensive embedded systems. The core density is designed to increase data processing throughput for networking and storage workloads.

The Zen 5c core architecture is designed to provide higher throughput and energy efficiency. The processors support up to 6TB of DDR5 memory per socket and offer I/O connectivity, including up to 160 PCIe Gen5 lanes with CXL 2.0.

The AMD Epyc Embedded 9005 Series processors include embedded features designed to provide a platform. To meet the product lifecycle requirements of embedded markets, AMD Epyc Embedded 9005 Series CPUs provide extended product manufacturing support.

AMD is collaborating with ecosystem partners and OEMs, including Cisco and IBM, to bring these processors to market.

Cisco and IBM have expressed their intent to utilize these processors in their products, citing their performance and features.

The AMD Epyc Embedded 9005 Series processors are currently being sampled with early access customers, and production shipments are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025. These processors utilize the SP5 socket form factor, which is compatible with the previous generation AMD Epyc Embedded 9004 Series.
