Apple postpones upgraded Siri features, citing development delays

Apple has announced a delay in the rollout of its more personalized Siri features, initially showcased with Apple Intelligence at WWDC last year. The company now anticipates these features will be released “in the coming year,” rather than the previously expected spring timeframe.

“Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT,” stated Apple spokesperson Jacqueline Roy. “We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.”

According to reports, internal testing revealed that the advanced Siri features were not performing as expected, leading to concerns among Apple executives. There are also suggestions that the features may need to be rebuilt entirely. Furthermore, a “true modernized, conversational version of Siri” might not arrive until iOS 20 at the earliest.

The delayed features include Siri’s ability to understand personal context and perform actions based on on-screen content. Apple has not yet clarified the exact meaning of “coming year.”
