Sennheiser HD 505 headphones, a budget-friendly entry into audiophile sound

Sennheiser has released the HD 505 open-back headphones, the latest addition to its HD 500 series. These headphones are designed for those seeking quality audio without a premium price tag.

The HD 505 features electrodynamic transducers with a 120-ohm impedance, slightly higher than other models in the HD 500 series, which typically have a 50-ohm impedance. These transducers are manufactured at Sennheiser’s Ireland factory, where the company produces its audio components. The manufacturing process involves both automated and manual assembly, ensuring precision and quality control.

Sennheiser emphasizes the HD 505’s ability to deliver a high-quality listening experience. “The HD 505 is for anyone ready to experience the audio awakening a great set of Sennheiser headphones is known for,” says Canice Koh, General Manager of Sonova Consumer Hearing Singapore.

Technically, the HD 505 offers a frequency response of 12 Hz to 38.5 kHz and a total harmonic distortion (THD) of less than 0.2%. The transducers are positioned at an angle within the chassis to simulate the sound projection of loudspeakers, creating a wider soundstage.  Sennheiser describes the HD 505’s sound signature as balanced, with “punchy bass, effortless mids, and non-fatiguing treble.”

The HD 505 shares the design aesthetics of other HD 500 series headphones.  It features a synthetic leather headband, velour earpads, and metal mesh earcup covers. The headphones weigh 237g and come with a detachable 1.8m cable with a 3.5mm plug, along with a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter for compatibility with various audio sources.
