Microsoft Surface Pro and laptop get major update with 5G and AI

Microsoft has unveiled its latest generation of Surface PCs designed specifically for business users: the Surface Pro 11th Edition and Surface Laptop 7th Edition. These devices not only boast upgraded internals with Intel’s new Core Ultra Series 2 processors but also introduce 5G connectivity and enhanced AI capabilities, setting a new standard for productivity and mobile computing in the professional world.

At the heart of these new Surface devices lies Intel’s Core Ultra Series 2 processors, representing a significant advancement over their predecessors. Intel has focused on refining its x86 architecture to deliver improved efficiency, bringing it closer to the performance levels of Arm-based competitors. This translates to longer battery life and smoother multitasking, essential for professionals who demand optimal performance throughout their workday.

Beyond efficiency gains, the Core Ultra Series 2 chips feature a considerably more powerful neural processing unit (NPU). This enhanced NPU unlocks the full potential of Microsoft’s Copilot suite of AI features, enabling seamless integration with Windows 11’s generative AI tools. Users can leverage studio camera effects, voice commands, and eventually, the highly anticipated Windows Recall feature, which uses AI to help users quickly find information they’ve seen or heard before.

Recognizing the increasing need for constant connectivity, Microsoft is introducing a 5G-enabled version of the Surface Laptop 7th Edition. This “always-connected” model, expected later in 2025, has been completely redesigned to deliver seamless connectivity on the go. This empowers professionals to stay productive and connected wherever their work takes them, without being tethered to Wi-Fi hotspots.

In addition to the new Surface PCs, Microsoft is also launching the Surface USB4 Dock, a versatile I/O expansion hub that provides a range of connectivity options. With USB-C, USB-A, Ethernet, and HDMI ports, along with 65W power passthrough, the dock simplifies workstation setup and enhances productivity.

The Surface Pro 11th Edition and Surface Laptop 7th Edition for Business will be available for purchase starting February 18th through Microsoft’s website and authorized resellers. The 5G-enabled Surface Laptop 7th Edition is expected to launch later in 2025.
