Grok Chatbot Breaks Free from X with Standalone App and Website

xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, is testing a standalone iOS app for its Grok chatbot, previously exclusive to X users. The app, currently in beta in Australia and select countries, offers real-time data access from the web and X, along with generative AI features like text rewriting, summarization, Q&A, and image generation.

xAI is also preparing a dedicated website, Grok.com, for web-based access to the chatbot.

Grok, initially available only to X’s paying subscribers, has been gradually rolled out to a wider audience, with a free version tested in November and expanded access earlier this month. The company highlights Grok’s image generator model’s ability to create photorealistic images without strict restrictions on content, including the use of public figures and copyrighted material.
