Apple TV+ has announced a new comedy series, “Government Cheese,” starring and executive produced by David Oyelowo. The 10-episode series will premiere globally on April 16, 2025, with the first four episodes, followed by weekly releases every Wednesday through May 28th.

Set in the San Fernando Valley in 1969, “Government Cheese” tells the story of the Chambers family, a quirky and unconventional family unit pursuing their dreams amidst the realities of the world. When Hampton Chambers (Oyelowo) is released from prison, his return disrupts the unique family dynamic he left behind.

The series also stars Simone Missick, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Evan Ellison, alongside a talented ensemble cast including Bokeem Woodbine, Jeremy Bobb, and John Ortiz.

“Government Cheese” is created by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, who also serve as writers, executive producers, and co-showrunners. Hunter directs the series, while Oyelowo executive produces under his Yoruba Saxon banner.

Apple TV+ continues to expand its original programming lineup with premium drama and comedy series, feature films, documentaries, and family entertainment. The streaming service is available on a wide range of devices and offers a seven-day free trial for new subscribers.
