Google’s generative AI video model, Veo, launches in private preview

Google’s generative AI video model, Veo, has launched in private preview, making it available for businesses to integrate into their content creation workflows. This marks a significant step forward in AI video generation, as Veo is capable of producing high-quality 1080p videos from text or image-based prompts.

Veo’s capabilities include generating videos in various visual and cinematic styles, with impressive realism and detail. Example clips released by Google demonstrate the model’s ability to create convincing videos that are difficult to distinguish from real footage.

The launch of Veo comes months after OpenAI’s unveiling of its competing Sora product, which has yet to be released. This gives Google an early advantage in the AI video generation market.

In addition to Veo, Google is also making its Imagen 3 text-to-image generator available to all Google Cloud customers via Vertex AI. This expands access to the powerful image generation model and introduces new features like prompt-based photo editing and brand customization.

Google emphasizes that both Veo and Imagen 3 incorporate safeguards to prevent the generation of harmful content and copyright infringement. The company also utilizes DeepMind’s SynthID technology, an invisible digital watermark, to address concerns about misinformation and misattribution.

With Veo’s launch, Google is positioning itself as a leader in the rapidly evolving field of AI video generation. As businesses increasingly explore the potential of AI for content creation, tools like Veo and Imagen 3 are likely to play a significant role in shaping the future of video production and marketing.
