Threads to introduce ads in early 2025, here’s what we know so far

Threads, Meta’s popular text-based social network, is set to introduce advertisements in early 2025. This move, while anticipated, comes at a time when Threads is experiencing significant user growth, partly due to the recent exodus from Twitter, now known as X.

According to reports, a team within Instagram’s advertising division is spearheading the initiative. The initial rollout will involve a small group of advertisers in January, with plans to expand gradually.

While advertising is a common monetization strategy for social media platforms, the timing of this announcement may be sensitive for Meta. Threads has recently seen an influx of users seeking alternatives to X, which has faced criticism for its evolving policies and increased political content.

However, the involvement of Instagram’s advertising team could be a positive sign. Instagram has generally been regarded as having a less intrusive advertising approach compared to other platforms. This may be attributed to its visual focus, but it raises hopes that Meta can replicate this success with Threads.

The introduction of ads to Threads is a significant development, and it remains to be seen how users will react. The key will lie in Meta’s ability to strike a balance between monetization and maintaining a positive user experience.
