OpenAI enhances ChatGPT Windows app with new features and improvements

OpenAI continues to enhance the ChatGPT experience on Windows with a new update to its dedicated desktop application. This latest version introduces several noteworthy features and improvements, including the ability to utilize your webcam directly within the app.

ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users can now snap photos with their PC or laptop’s webcam and seamlessly attach them to their conversations with the AI chatbot. This functionality opens up new possibilities for visual interaction and expands the ways users can engage with ChatGPT.

Beyond the webcam integration, the update also addresses user feedback regarding text scaling. Users can now adjust the text size within the app using the Ctrl + or Ctrl – keyboard shortcuts, improving accessibility and readability.

Further refinements include a customizable shortcut for opening the companion window and a dedicated button within the app’s settings to manually check for updates.

This update follows a series of recent improvements to the ChatGPT Windows app. Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced Advanced Voice Mode, enabling more natural and real-time conversations, along with the ability to search chat history. Advanced Voice Mode also received enhancements with the addition of five new voices, custom instructions, improved conversation flow, and better support for foreign languages.

While these updates bring valuable enhancements, it’s worth noting that the ChatGPT Windows app is currently an Electron-based web app. This approach has inherent limitations compared to a native application. If the app continues to gain traction, it’s possible that OpenAI may consider developing a fully native ChatGPT app for Windows, similar to the existing ChatGPT desktop app for Macs.

Users can download the latest update for the ChatGPT Windows app from the Microsoft Store. While the app is currently limited to paid ChatGPT users, OpenAI plans to extend access to free users later this year.
