You can now personalize your drive with Google Maps’ vehicle customization options

Google Maps, the go-to navigation app for millions worldwide, is receiving a visual refresh. Users will soon be able to trade in the generic arrow icon for a more personalized navigation experience. The update introduces a variety of new vehicle options and color customizations, allowing for a more engaging and representative journey on the digital road.

Currently, Google Maps offers a limited selection of vehicle icons: a red sedan, a yellow SUV, and a green pickup truck. This rather basic selection has remained unchanged since 2020. However, a recent update to the iOS version of Google Maps hints at a more stylish future.

The updated app now features five new vehicle types: a sedan, an SUV, a Jeep, a hatchback, and an electric vehicle reminiscent of a Tesla. In addition to the expanded vehicle choices, users can personalize their ride with eight different color options, including Glacier White, Night Black, Aqua Green, Poppy Red, and Sky Blue.

While this update brings a welcome dose of personalization, it’s worth noting that the original vehicle icons cannot be recolored. They remain locked to their default hues.

As of now, the new vehicle options and color customizations have only been spotted on the iOS version of Google Maps, specifically on the iPhone 16 Pro. However, it’s likely that these features will make their way to Android devices in the near future. Google has a history of bringing feature parity to both platforms, ensuring a consistent user experience across different operating systems.
