Netflix’s CEO donates $100 million towards education fund

Having recently announced Netflix’s presence to nearly all the countries in the world, Netflix CEO and co-founder Reed Hastings just joined a growing list of tech leaders that are turning to philanthropy by announcing a $100 million fund called the Hastings Fund; the fund will focus on children’s education.

Hasting’s has set himself besides fellow tech philanthropics such as Twitter and Square CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey, who in October said he’s giving away more than half of his stake in Square to fund his new Start Small Foundation as well as Mark Zuckerberg who announced along with his wife Priscilla Chan that they’re donating their fortunes towards a $45 billion initiative. Of course they are but successors of Bill Gates and his Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Neerav Kingsland was named as the CEO of the Hastings Fund and given the responsibility of donating the funds to relevant charities.

Already two donations have been made to the United Negro College Fund and to Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley to support college education of Black and Latino youth, totalling $1.5m.

You can visit the Hastings Fund website here.
