Slow Horses is back on Apple TV, with the sixth season of the acclaimed British spy drama beginning its weekly rollout as the series continues an unusually rapid run for a modern streaming hit.
The first episode of Slow Horses season 6 is now available, with new episodes scheduled to arrive every Wednesday through October 21. Rather than dropping the entire season at once, Apple is sticking with the weekly release strategy that has helped keep some of its biggest shows in the conversation for longer.
Season 6 finds Jackson Lamb and the dysfunctional agents of Slough House facing another dangerous situation, this time involving Diana Taverner and what Apple describes as a deadly cycle of retaliation and revenge. Gary Oldman returns as Lamb, the abrasive but highly capable intelligence veteran at the centre of the series.
The timing of the new season is particularly notable. Slow Horses isn’t arriving with questions hanging over its future: Apple has already committed to another two seasons. That gives the series a level of long-term security increasingly uncommon in a streaming market where even well-received productions can disappear after only a few seasons.
Its release pace is equally unusual. Slow Horses premiered in 2022 and has effectively maintained a schedule of more than one season per year. For viewers accustomed to waiting two or three years between seasons of major streaming dramas, that consistency has become one of the show’s quieter strengths.
The series also enters its sixth season with fresh awards recognition. Director Saul Metzstein received the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the previous season’s finale, “Scars,” adding another layer of momentum ahead of the new episodes.
Slow Horses has carved out its identity by avoiding the polished fantasy normally associated with screen spies. Slough House is populated by intelligence officers whose careers have gone badly wrong, while Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is about as far removed from the immaculate secret-agent archetype as possible. The result mixes espionage, workplace dysfunction and dark comedy without abandoning the stakes expected from a spy thriller.
With seasons seven and eight already confirmed, Apple clearly sees Slow Horses as more than a short-lived streaming success. The bigger challenge now is maintaining that consistency as the series moves deeper into its run — particularly when six seasons in four years would exhaust many shows long before Slough House is apparently ready to close its doors.
