Android TV In The Making?

According to files obtained  by The Verge, Google is developing and is about to launch Android TV.

Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform, writes Google. “It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction.” It will be “cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast.

As per The Verge, Google is instructing developers to build “extremely simple TV apps for an extremely simple set-top-box interface”. The interface will run  Android and will consist of a set of scrolling “cards” to display movies, shows, apps, and games. Android TV will also support voice input and notifications.

The Verge also claims that there will be “optional” game controllers.

“Access to content should be simple and magical,” reads one Google document, which adds that it should never take more than three clicks or gestures to go from the homescreen to enjoying a new piece of content.

After the failure of Google TV, the idea of a new Android TV doesn’t sound really exciting at this point, and it definitely doesn’t sound more compelling than Apple TV or the newly announced Fire TV by Amazon.

Google declined to comment on The Verge’s story.
