Audi’s self driving a car

Audi once again demonstrated their self-driving vehicles at CES this year by taking guests for a spin on the  highway.

The Audi A7 test vehicle is packed with a digital camera, laser scanner and a radar system hidden in the  grill and can detect anything and everything around it on the roads According to  Audi’s Project Leader of Development of Piloted Driving.  Passengers were driven with a full police escort and a number of other Audi vehicles to assist in the demonstration.

Once on the highway, the system was activated and the escorting Audi cars took turn in simulating real life traffic scenarios to test the capabilities of the system. One example, one car would block the A7 front he front which prompted it to slow down and give the other driver enough space. The system can also detects if your eyes are closed, it’ll then go into safety mode.

“At one point, Giesler closed his eyes and folded his hands in his lap. After a few seconds, the car started to ding in an attempt to get his attention. After several seconds, the vehicle started to apply the brakes and ultimately came to a complete stop.”

Audi said this technology will be present in car models within five years.
