This 1.1kg Zenbook 14 wants you to touch it first

ASUS has set up inside THEA, the café at Dubai Design District, for Dubai Design Week, and the Zenbook 14 is the focus. The takeover runs from 3 to 5 November. It’s the company’s second year in a row at the event, and this time it has skipped the usual exhibition stand. Its laptops are placed around a working café, where visitors can pick one up between coffees and see how it handles without a sales demo.

Calling it “Design You Can Feel” is a stretch, but the idea behind it makes sense. Laptop makers have had a hard time setting their premium ultraportables apart on specs alone, so they talk more about materials, finish and how a machine feels to hold. Design week is an obvious place for that pitch. An audience that cares about texture and craft is more likely to notice the details on show.

The model on display is the Zenbook 14 (UX3480), a Copilot+ PC that ASUS says weighs from 1.1kg. Its all-metal chassis uses Ceraluminum, a ceramic-treated aluminium found only on Zenbooks, which is meant to feel smoother than bare metal and resist wear better. The laptop has a 14-inch 16:10 OLED display. Its ports include USB-C, full-size USB Type-A and HDMI, which is more than most thin laptops in this class offer, and many buyers still need those ports.

The processor choice matters more than the café setting. The Snapdragon X versions are central to Microsoft’s Copilot+ push for on-device AI, but the UAE range also includes AMD and Intel versions. Buyers who are still unsure about running Windows on Arm can get the same design on an x86 chip, which is a reasonable way to hedge.

Prices in the UAE start at AED 3,499 for selected versions on the ASUS UAE eShop. ASUS is offering savings of up to AED 1,000 as part of its 37th anniversary. The press materials don’t say which processor and memory you get at the entry price, and that’s worth checking. Within a single laptop line, the cheapest model and the one being shown off are often quite different machines.

Visitors can also try other premium ASUS laptops for productivity and creative work, but the Zenbook 14 is clearly the main event.
