Sony is expanding its ULT POWER SOUND range with three new party speakers aimed squarely at listeners who believe there is no such thing as too much bass. The ULT TOWER MAX, ULT TOWER 7 and ULT TOWER 5 will arrive in the UAE in October 2026, bringing redesigned woofers, multiple sound modes and an increasingly extensive collection of DJ, karaoke and party features.
The ULT TOWER MAX sits at the top of the range and is unsurprisingly the most excessive of the three. Sony has equipped it with three woofers — two facing forward and another at the rear — alongside a high-powered amplifier rated for up to 2,150 watts of output. The ULT TOWER 7 drops that figure to 420 watts, while the smaller ULT TOWER 5 offers up to 300 watts.
All three use Sony’s newly developed circular woofer design alongside larger speaker cabinets and its ULT DUCT system. Sony says the combination improves low-frequency performance, an area it has also worked on with hip-hop producers and engineers including Dot Da Genius, Daru Jones, Dready and Dennis “ROC.am” Jones.
The familiar ULT button now provides four listening profiles. ULT1 concentrates on deeper low frequencies, while ULT2 pushes bass and sound pressure harder. The new FLAT setting is intended for a more neutral presentation, while LIVE attempts to create a more spacious performance-style sound without sacrificing vocal clarity. There is also a Custom EQ through the Sony | Sound Connect app for listeners who would rather make their own adjustments.
For bigger rooms, the ULT TOWER MAX and ULT TOWER 7 feature 360° Party Sound, designed to distribute audio more evenly around a space. Sony has also added Enhanced Sound Field Optimization, which analyses speaker positioning and ambient noise before adjusting the overall frequency balance. The speakers can be positioned vertically or horizontally, giving owners more flexibility than the traditional upright party-speaker format.
Connectivity is equally focused on events rather than conventional living-room listening. The range supports XLR, RCA and USB-C connections, with stereo configurations available using compatible speakers. Auracast-based Party Chain can link multiple compatible Sony models while synchronising music and lighting. Three lighting settings — BEAT, WAVE and MELLOW — cover everything from rhythm-synchronised effects to slower ambient illumination.
Karaoke remains part of the formula, including support for Sony’s optional ULTMIC1 microphone, while the connectivity options also make the speakers suitable for DJ setups.
Portability varies considerably across the range. The ULT TOWER MAX and TOWER 7 have redesigned wheels, while all three receive carry handles. The TOWER 7 and TOWER 5 carry an IPX4 rating when used vertically and offer up to 30 and 20 hours of battery life respectively.
Sony has not provided UAE pricing yet, which leaves an important part of the buying equation unanswered. With the ULT TOWER series increasingly blurring the boundary between Bluetooth speaker, portable PA and karaoke system, price will determine whether these are compelling upgrades or simply very large ways to annoy the neighbours.
