Snapchat is expanding its collection of generative AI tools, but its latest experiments come with a price tag. Snap is adding AI-generated songs, photo corrections, Snap remixes, stylised fonts and redesigned stickers to Lens+, its $7.99-per-month premium subscription tier.
Perhaps the strangest addition is Chat to Song. Lens+ subscribers can press and hold a text message, choose a musical genre such as pop or rock, and have Snapchat transform the message into a short original song. Users can preview the resulting track before deciding whether their friend really needs to hear their message turned into music.
AI Remix takes a different approach, allowing subscribers to use generative AI to reinterpret Snaps received from friends. AI Photoshoot is considerably more practical, targeting familiar photography problems such as closed eyes and awkward facial expressions.
Snap is also bringing generative AI into smaller parts of the creation process. New AI-powered fonts can transform captions using visual treatments including spray paint, foam and bubble lettering, while Sticker Remix can generate alternative versions of custom, saved or received stickers in different styles.
The additions underline how Snap is positioning Lens+ as the more experimental AI layer sitting above Snapchat+. Introduced in June 2025, Lens+ builds on the regular Snapchat+ subscription with access to more computationally demanding augmented reality and generative AI features, including exclusive Lenses and tools from Snap and participating creators.
That strategy has already produced features such as Imagine Lens, an open-prompt image generator, and AI Clips, which can turn a single photograph into a five-second generated video. The latest additions broaden that approach beyond standalone AI effects and push generative tools deeper into everyday messaging and content creation.
There is a catch beyond the monthly subscription. Snap applies generation allowances to computationally expensive features, meaning Lens+ subscribers do not necessarily receive unlimited access to every AI tool. Users who exhaust their monthly allowance must wait until the next billing cycle before generating more eligible content.
That limitation highlights the economics behind the current wave of consumer AI subscriptions. Generative features cost money to run, and Snap is increasingly treating AI not simply as another Snapchat feature but as something users may pay extra to access.
Whether turning a chat message into a song proves genuinely useful is another question. But Snap’s direction is clear: Lens+ is becoming a testing ground for AI-driven creation, with the most computationally demanding toys increasingly living behind a subscription.
