iOS 27.2 is here and Siri AI now remembers your conversations

Apple’s 27.2 software wave now reaches the devices most people actually carry. iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2 are out for everyone, and as on the Mac and Apple Watch, most of the changes are about Siri AI becoming more useful day to day.

The main change is memory. Siri AI can now keep useful context from earlier conversations instead of starting fresh every time, and it can draw on a wider range of personal information when answering. That second change is the bigger one. An assistant that can link what is in your messages, calendar and history is far more useful than one that just answers isolated questions, but it also reads more of your data than before. Apple seems to know this. The companion watchOS release describes a new Excluded Apps setting on the iPhone that lets users choose which apps Siri, Search and suggestions can access.

This release also brings the language expansion Apple promised in September, with Siri AI arriving in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish alongside English. According to Apple’s watchOS notes, the feature is still unavailable in the EU and mainland China, which leaves a large group of iPhone owners out for now.

Messages gets a new feature called Suggestions, which proposes actions in apps such as Calendar and Reminders based on what is being discussed. In practice, that could mean turning “dinner Thursday?” into a calendar entry without leaving the thread. Google and Samsung have offered similar contextual shortcuts for years, so Apple is catching up here rather than leading. The real test will be whether the suggestions feel helpful or intrusive.

The update ships in several builds. Most iPhones and iPads get build 24B119, which differs from the release candidate seeded on October 19. The iPhone Duo has its own build, as does the new OLED iPad mini that Apple announced today. Owners of older devices still get security support: iOS 26.7.2 and iOS 18.7.11 are also available, along with their iPadOS equivalents.

To install, open Settings, go to General and then Software Update. Apple says the release also includes bug fixes and security updates, which is reason enough to install it even if Siri AI is not available in your language or region.

Today’s timing matters too. With the touchscreen MacBook Pro expected on Wednesday, Apple is clearly making sure its software is up to date before the new hardware arrives.
