Apple has introduced a new iMac powered by its M6 chip, keeping the 24-inch all-in-one design and seven colour options while upgrading performance, connectivity and on-device AI capabilities. Pre-orders open October 28 in the UAE and 34 other countries and regions, with availability starting November 6.
The new iMac comes in two configurations. The entry model features a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, while the higher-end version steps up to a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, two more cores on each than the previous M4 model. Each GPU core now includes a Neural Accelerator, and the chip pairs this with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s.
Apple says the M6 iMac delivers up to five times faster on-device AI performance than the M4 model, up to twice the graphics performance, and up to 1.5 times faster productivity in apps such as Microsoft Excel. Compared with the most popular Intel-based iMac, the company claims performance gains of up to 18 times. Apple also states that the M6 offers the fastest single-threaded CPU performance currently available. These figures are based on Apple’s own testing, with M4 comparisons made against a system configured with 32GB of memory and 2TB of storage.
Connectivity has been updated with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and Apple says SSD read and write speeds are up to twice as fast as before. The 12-core model adds four Thunderbolt 4 ports, optional 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and an optional nano-texture display. The iMac supports up to two 6K external displays.
The 4.5K Retina display offers 500 nits of brightness and P3 wide colour. Other features carried forward include a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos support, a three-microphone array, and colour-matched keyboard, mouse and trackpad accessories with USB-C. Touch ID comes standard on the 12-core model.
The iMac ships with macOS 27, which brings refinements to design, performance and search, along with updates to Liquid Glass, including a new setting that lets users adjust transparency from fully clear to fully tinted.
On the environmental side, Apple says the stand uses 100 percent recycled aluminium, all magnets use recycled rare earth elements, and the packaging is entirely fibre-based.
In the UAE, the 10-core iMac starts at AED 6,499, or AED 6,299 with education pricing. The 12-core model starts at AED 7,499, or AED 7,099 for education customers. Colour options include blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.
