Anthropic launches a massive new push into AI training

Anthropic is putting $100 million behind a problem that has quietly stalled corporate AI plans for the past two years: plenty of companies can build a promising chatbot demo, but far fewer have people who can turn it into something secure, reliable and running in production. The answer, according to the company, is the Claude Frontier Academy, a training initiative meant to produce 10,000 so-called Frontier Deployed Engineers by the end of 2027.

At its core is the Frontier Deployed Engineer Residency, a 12-week program that Anthropic says is modeled on medical residencies. Nominated engineers start with several days of in-person sessions, including a simulation exercise, and then spend three months running a live Claude deployment inside their own organization. Those who pass the final assessments, expected early next year, receive a Claude Frontier Deployed Engineer badge. Training is taking place in San Francisco, New York and London.

The early participant list reads like a directory of the firms that sell digital transformation to everyone else. Accenture, McKinsey and Morgan Stanley are already involved, with Bain, Capgemini, Deloitte, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Novo Nordisk also named. That mix matters: consultancies multiply their influence across their client lists, so every engineer trained there could shape how dozens of other companies adopt Claude.

The name borrows from Palantir’s well-known forward deployed engineer model, where technical staff work directly inside customer organizations rather than handing over software and walking away. Anthropic’s twist is to train the customer’s and partner’s own employees to fill that role, which scales far further than hiring them all in-house.

The residency extends the existing Claude Partner Network. According to Anthropic, professionals from 46,000 companies have earned Claude certifications, and close to 4,000 have finished Basecamp, an immersive course based on the onboarding curriculum given to the company’s own Applied AI staff.

Access is tightly limited. Only nominated staff from eligible partner organizations can take part, and interested companies have to go through their Anthropic account team or Partner Account Manager to confirm eligibility and cohort space. Independent developers and smaller businesses are not part of this round, and Anthropic hasn’t said whether that will change.

The commercial logic is hard to miss. Engineers fluent in Claude-specific deployment practices make successful projects more likely, and successful projects tend to lead to larger contracts and deeper dependence on a single model provider. Standardized deployment skills could genuinely raise the quality of enterprise AI work, but whether a badge earned on one vendor’s platform carries weight in a market where companies increasingly mix models remains an open question.
