back 4 blood : not a solo players paradise

Back 4 blood starts the game with a squad of rag-tag survivors called “Cleaners,” but these guys don’t intend to clean your home but rather the zombie infestation called the “Ridden”. It builds upon the zombie-survival aspect, which would be evident since it is the spiritual successor Left 4 Dead.

When starting off the game, you can choose between one of eight characters, each with unique abilities and team effects. I decided to select Walker, but mom was interesting too. She reminded me of Sarah Conner from the terminator.

And once that is done, you are thrown into the world of Back 4 Blood.

Each act starts with an option to change characters and choose a weapon. Then you can open the store and buy more weapons, upgrades & other supplies. You will have to be careful with spending the in-game currency as it is limited initially; however, once you add more perks, that equation changes quickly.

Once you head out this door for the first time, it feels scary at first, but after a few times, it gets easier.

Once we are in the game world, we start with gunning down the Ridden.

Weapons are abundant in the game, whether it’s a shotgun or an AR-rifle, but the main drawback of how weapons work in the game is that any attachments you add on are permanent. This can be a bummer if you just bought the mod.

I initially played the game on solo mode, and that was a mistake because the bots in this game are not the best to cover your six.

Most acts are interesting at first, but it feels like it’s all rinse and repeat after some time. For me, this was around act 2, where I decided to play this game in multiplayer only. This did not change my gameplay by much, apart from certain parts of the level getting slightly more challenging.

I don’t know if this is an isolated issue, but it took me quite some time to find people to play with, even though the game is out for many people now. There are bits and chunks of the story and some character development, but it feels like an afterthought.

Overall, back 4 blood is a good game if you have a squad of friends willing to join you. It’s not got the most impressive graphics or crazy amazing storyline, but it was an enjoyable experience for me, and I would recommend it if you and the squad want to slay some Ridden.
