Middle East Film and Comic Con is back in Abu Dhabi, and MEFCC 2026 looks capable of consuming an entire weekend, your phone battery and a potentially irresponsible chunk of your collectibles budget.

Running from 11 to 13 September at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, the 14th edition combines celebrity appearances, cosplay, anime, comics, gaming, trading cards, tabletop games and a convention floor packed with things competing for your attention. John Cena leads the guest roster, but One Piece, Marvel, Spider-Verse, K-Pop Demon Hunters and Star Wars fans all have reasons to show up.

Anime gets an even bigger presence this year thanks to Crunchyroll making its first UAE event appearance. Combined with the expanded Otaku District, competitive cosplay, TCG tournaments and Artist Alley, MEFCC increasingly feels less like a convention built around one headline attraction and more like several fandoms sharing the same enormous save file.

When and where is MEFCC 2026?

MEFCC 2026 takes place from Friday 11 September to Sunday 13 September at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi. Friday runs from 3pm to 11pm, while Saturday and Sunday open from 12pm to 11pm, giving weekend visitors considerably more time to explore.

Standard tickets are listed at AED 160 for Friday, AED 190 for Saturday and AED 160 for Sunday, while the three-day early-bird pass is AED 390. Children aged six and under enter free, with tickets for children aged 7–11 listed at AED 50 at the venue.

Choosing the right day matters more than saving AED 30 here or there. Guest appearances change throughout the weekend, so anyone attending primarily for a particular celebrity should build the visit around that schedule first.

John Cena leads the MEFCC 2026 celebrity lineup

John Cena is the obvious headline guest and appears on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday puts him into a group celebrity panel alongside Pom Klementieff, Charithra Chandran and Joonas Suotamo from 4pm to 4:45pm, while Sunday’s The Time Is Now – John Cena live gives him a solo Main Stage session at 4pm.

One Piece fans have an equally compelling reason to consider Sunday. Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’s live-action adaptation, attends Saturday and Sunday, while Jacob Romero, who plays Usopp, appears throughout the convention. The pair share the stage on Sunday from 1:15pm to 2pm for Beyond the Grand Line – The Swordsman & the Sniper.

Marvel fans should instead pay close attention to Friday. Simu Liu only appears that day and joins Pom Klementieff for the Beyond the Multiverse panel at 6:30pm. Klementieff returns on Saturday, but anyone specifically coming for Liu has precisely one day to make it happen.

The roster extends to Arden Cho, Shameik Moore, Charithra Chandran and Joonas Suotamo. Cho gets a Saturday panel spanning her work from Teen Wolf to K-Pop Demon Hunters, while Moore’s Spider-Verse session takes place at 6pm the same day.

Meeting celebrities is where the budget gets serious

A standard MEFCC ticket gets you into the convention, but it doesn’t automatically buy you an autograph or celebrity photograph. Those Meet the Stars experiences use separate vouchers unless they’re covered by an applicable VIP package.

Prices vary considerably. John Cena is firmly in premium collectible territory at AED 900 for an autograph and AED 900 for a photograph. Simu Liu is listed at AED 560 and AED 580 respectively, while Pom Klementieff costs AED 480 for an autograph and AED 500 for a photograph. Mackenyu’s autograph is AED 480, while a duo photograph with Mackenyu and Jacob Romero is listed at AED 760 on Saturday and Sunday.

General-admission visitors also need to think about timing. Meet the Stars vouchers are subject to availability, with the supplied event information indicating they go on sale before the relevant sessions. Treat a celebrity encounter as a scheduled mission rather than something you’ll casually squeeze in between lunch and buying your sixth mystery box.

Crunchyroll makes its UAE event debut

One of the more interesting additions to MEFCC 2026 isn’t a celebrity at all. Crunchyroll is making its first UAE event appearance, taking over booth N11 while also sponsoring the convention’s Otaku District.

The booth mixes merchandise, giveaways and interactive anime attractions. JUJUTSU KAISEN fans can tackle a Reaction Wall, a reflex game built around hitting illuminated targets and chasing higher scores, while Demon Slayer gets a giant Tanjiro Kamado inflatable designed for considerably less stressful photo opportunities.

Crunchyroll will also have officially licensed apparel, accessories and collectibles, alongside promotional giveaways including sticker sheets, Solo Leveling posters and JUJUTSU KAISEN cards while stocks last. None of this reinvents the convention booth, but Crunchyroll choosing MEFCC for its first UAE activation is significant. It shows just how seriously the regional anime audience is now being treated.

That makes the Crunchyroll booth worth visiting even if you’re not hunting merchandise. The company says its catalogue includes more than 1,300 anime titles with Arabic subtitles, alongside Arabic dubbing and seasonal simulcasts, so its physical arrival at MEFCC feels like a natural extension of a much wider localisation push.

The Otaku District is becoming an event within the event

Crunchyroll’s sponsorship also gives the Otaku District extra weight this year. Across the weekend, the anime and Asian pop-culture area features J-pop and J-rock covers, live performances, karaoke, Random Play Dances, choreography activities, fandom quizzes and Janken battles.

It’s also a useful place to disappear between fixed celebrity panels. Instead of spending 45 minutes studying the event map like you’re trying to navigate Hyrule without fast travel, there should usually be something happening in the Otaku District.

Anime fandom stretches well beyond this one area too. Mackenyu and Jacob Romero give One Piece fans major celebrity attractions, Arden Cho brings K-Pop Demon Hunters into the mix, and Demon Slayer appears in other entertainment across the weekend. Anime isn’t a side category at MEFCC anymore; it’s one of the convention’s main pillars.

Saturday belongs to cosplay

If cosplay is your priority, Saturday is the day to target. The MEFCC Cosplay Competition covers performance, craftsmanship and kids’ categories alongside the UAE preliminaries for the World Cosplay Summit.

There’s also a AED 60,000 prize pool, with the winning UAE team earning the chance to compete at the WCS 2027 Finals in Nagoya, Japan.

Cosplay continues beyond the competition through Cosplay Central, community activities and international guests, while Friday includes the Walk of Heroes cosplay catwalk. Sunday adds a cosplay armour workshop, so there’s something happening throughout the weekend even if you have no intention of spending six months constructing a screen-accurate suit of armour in your spare room.

Pokémon, One Piece and Magic take over the TCG Arena

Trading-card players have their own potential weekend sinkhole in the TCG Arena, which hosts Pokémon, One Piece and Magic: The Gathering across all three days. The programme includes competitive tournaments as well as learn-to-play sessions for newcomers, with 300 player spots available across the event.

Pokémon also escapes onto the Main Stage on Sunday with a pack-opening party at 7pm. Whether that produces glorious pulls or several minutes of cardboard-induced existential despair is entirely between you and the RNG gods.

Save time for Artist Alley, gaming and everything else

Celebrity guests naturally dominate the headlines, but MEFCC still remembers the “comic” part of Comic Con. Its creator lineup includes Jim Cheung, Federico Vicentini, Brett Breeding, Dexter Soy, Ken Lashley, Francesco Mobili, Mike Choi, Jimbo Salgado, Frank Martin and Martin Simmonds, with work spanning major Marvel and DC properties.

Artist Alley gives independent and regional creators space to sell original work and take commissions, while elsewhere you’ll find the Gaming Zone, Tabletop Zone, Collectors Gallery, Bookworm Lounge and Festival Plaza. The Tabletop Zone includes Game Masters who can help newcomers learn unfamiliar games, which is considerably friendlier than handing someone a rulebook the size of a JRPG strategy guide.

Food is covered too, with the Food Truck Park listing Mattar Farm, SALT, Wingstop, Moshi and House of Pops among its vendors. That becomes surprisingly important during an eleven-hour convention day when your energy bar starts blinking red.

Which MEFCC 2026 day should you choose?

Friday is the obvious pick for Simu Liu fans, since it’s his only appearance and includes his panel with Pom Klementieff. It’s also a good choice for visitors who want the opening-night atmosphere without committing to the longer weekend days.

Saturday offers the broadest mix. Cena and Mackenyu are both appearing, Arden Cho and Shameik Moore have dedicated panels, and the cosplay competition becomes one of the day’s biggest attractions. It’s the most expensive standard day ticket, but probably the strongest choice for visitors whose interests jump between several fandoms.

Sunday wins for One Piece and Cena fans. Mackenyu and Jacob Romero share their panel early in the afternoon before Cena takes the Main Stage at 4pm, while Pokémon, comic creators, cosplay and closing entertainment fill out the rest of the day.

Anyone who genuinely wants celebrities, anime, gaming, cosplay, Artist Alley and TCGs should consider the three-day pass rather than attempting to compress everything into one heroic speedrun. MEFCC has simply become too broad for one day to cover comfortably.

MEFCC 2026 isn’t relying on John Cena to carry the entire weekend. The celebrity roster is strong, but the more interesting story is how much convention exists around it: Crunchyroll’s first UAE activation, a much larger anime presence, serious cosplay competition, TCG tournaments, comics, gaming and creator-focused areas all give different fandoms somewhere to settle in.

Pick your day according to what you absolutely refuse to miss. Friday belongs to Simu Liu, Saturday offers the best overall variety and strongest cosplay programme, while Sunday is particularly tempting for John Cena and One Piece fans.

Most importantly, don’t schedule every minute. Choose two or three essential events and leave room to wander. The unexpected discovery — an artist, game, ridiculous collectible or anime activity you hadn’t planned for — is often the part of a comic con that survives longer in your memory than the carefully planned itinerary.
