Fortnite heads to the Xbox PC app with cross-platform support

Fortnite will soon be available through the Xbox app on PC, giving players an alternative to the Epic Games Launcher when the game arrives on November 18. The move adds another access point for one of the most played titles in the world and aligns with Microsoft’s broader push to make more third-party games available in its Windows ecosystem.

Until now, PC players have needed Epic’s own launcher to start the game. With this update, those who already use the Xbox app for managing their library or Game Pass titles will be able to launch Fortnite directly from the same interface. The game is also joining Xbox’s Play Anywhere program, which ties progress and purchases to the same account across Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and compatible handheld devices. Support for Xbox-branded handhelds, including the Xbox Ally and Ally X, means players can more easily switch between platforms without worrying about saves or cosmetics failing to sync.

Another part of the update involves subscription perks. Starting November 18, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will receive Fortnite Crew as an added benefit. Crew includes a monthly cosmetic outfit, 1,000 V-Bucks, and access to all current battle passes. For players who already subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate, this reduces the need to manage separate recurring payments, while those who previously avoided Fortnite Crew may reassess it now that it is bundled with an existing service.

The availability of Fortnite on the Xbox PC storefront broadens distribution without changing the core game, but it does highlight an ongoing trend: platform holders are increasingly willing to host competitors’ titles if it keeps players within their overall ecosystem. For Fortnite, which has long prioritized accessibility across devices, the added storefront support simply gives PC players another path to jump in.
